Main Article Content
Abstract
This text is a historical recounting of the creation of the Setúbal School of Education (ESE), highlighting teamwork, inspiration from international pedagogical trends, and the construction of a unique identity based on pedagogical thought. It advocates a developmental perspective in teacher training that recognizes students as active subjects, values their personal and professional journeys, and invests in educational contexts that promote autonomy, critical reflection, practical experience, and continuity of training throughout their careers. It also summarizes the functions of a teacher training school: supporting and valuing each student, providing challenging experiences, broadening horizons, articulating thought and action, and remaining an educational reference even after initial training.
