Estudante, escola e família: Como plantar ilhas no oceano de possibilidades?

Abstract
Using the Opportunity-Propensity model (Byrnes & Miller, 2007) as reference, the influence of student variables in explaining their academic achievement is analyzed. A representative sample of 1917 students, between 6th and 9th grade, filled out a sociodemographic questionnaire, and cognitive and motivational tests. Correlations and regressions show gender, mother's academic qualifications, family support, cognitive abilities and self-concept explain 47% of the variance of academic achievement.
